Setting the stage for 2024

liber-net, the digital civil liberties initiative I direct, is set to grow in 2024. As a result of new donor support we’re hiring a Europe or UK-based Operations Director and a Barcelona-based Project Manager, bringing our modest team to five. We’d appreciate any circulation through your networks. If you know of great candidates, please pass it on.

We have a number of things planned for 2024, including:

  • Network-building among digital rights dissenters, including convening a strategy retreat for those who have maintained their commitment to free speech

  • Producing short films documenting the Censorship Industrial Complex and its key protagonists (if you have film-making skills we’d love to hear from you)

  • Extending the mapping of the Censorship Industrial Complex, with a particular focus on Covid-related censorship

  • Long-form investigative reporting

  • More regular posting to this Substack

  • Developing free speech advocacy campaigns

  • With luck, further expanding this team

You can read more about liber-net’s 2023 achievements and plans for 2024 in our newsletter. (Visit liber-net.org to subscribe)

Network Affects Substack.

Led by liber-net founder Andrew Lowenthal, NetworkAffects explores digital authoritarianism - privacy threats, bio-metric ID, surveillance, programmable currencies, and attacks on digital civil liberties and free expression from the ‘anti-disinformation’ and ‘fact-checking’ fields.
