"Our new initiative, "Strengthening Resilience against Disinformation in Sri Lanka", focuses on protecting electoral integrity and building resilience against online harms. This project is carried out together with Factum, in close collaboration with the Election Commission of Sri Lanka, and co-funded by the European Commission. Why this matters: Online disinformation and hate speech have the potential to weaken the trust in elections and democratic institutions. Strengthening resilience is key to ensuring free, fair and transparent electoral processes. Our work will: - Support the Election Commission to monitor and respond to harmful online content. - Detect and counter disinformation and hate speech that can disrupt elections. - Encourage stronger accountability from digital platforms. With partners, PAFFEL, Hashtag Generation, Media Law Forum and Muragala, we are expanding the monitoring and fact-checking ecosystem to create counter-narratives rooted in facts. Our shared goal: safer, more transparent, and trustworthy online spaces during elections and beyond."
